Alignment

When you bump a curb, get new tires or if there is shaking going on in your steering, it could be your tires are out of line. If you fail to align them the tread will wear out and flats are inevitable. It’s the same with us spiritually, we need alignments.

Joshua is about to die, knowing the propensity of Israel to be drawn away from the God they serve he aligns their thinking. He reminds them of how good the Lord has been.

“…not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” Joshua‬ ‭23‬:‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Then he gets tough on them and tells them they must choose the god they would serve. The gods of the past, the gods of the land they are inhabiting or the God who has kept every promise and walked with them. He calls them to alignment.

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”” Joshua‬ ‭24‬:‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We too can get out of alignment by looking back at successes and failures and meditating on them, that’s worshiping the gods of the past. We can also get caught up in what is going on around us and get off base with our perspective of the God we serve. Yes, we can worship problems, ideas and chase after the gods in the place we live. Like Joshua we each must make a daily choice, especially facing tough situations, “choose this day whom you will serve”. Choose this moment where you will meditate, choose whom you will serve when facing tough situations. Remember, being out of alignment doesn’t always show damage at first, but left over time it can be destructive.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We reap what we worship, our Lord never changes and will always keep His promises. Who will you serve?

Stay Strong
