Live Your Name
After wrestling with God all night, God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. However, Jacob continued to be Jacob a weak deceptive leader. After his sons pulled a deceptive barbaric act in Shechem killing all the men and Jacob did nothing, God set things right. Jacob is reminded that his name had been changed to Israel, the leader of God’s people and that he should live accordingly.
“And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.” Genesis 35:10
We all tend to forget or refuse to live the name we proclaim at times. We forget that it’s not just a responsibility to act right but a privilege and honor to be called followers of Christ. I’m stirred today that I must live who I say I am and live according to the promises of God and not compromise when trouble comes. When we live who we are and according to Gods promises we are not intimidated with what comes against us. It also helps us to stand strong against evil and never compromise our faith. My challenge to you is to live who you say you are and expect God’s promises. Psalm 112 depicts this clearly.
“The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Psalms 112:5-7
