Missing The Point
Jesus just finished feeding five thousand with seven loaves of bread and two fish. Yet the disciples grew confused to what He was teaching them when it came to spiritual things. It’s like they keep forgetting the miracles and things the Lord has done.
Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.” But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?” Mark 8:15-17
Jesus then reminds them of the miraculous feeding of the thousands and tells them they are missing the point. His point was about the teachings of the Pharisees, not food. It’s easy to forget what God has done for us. It’s easy to get distracted with the problems of today that we lose perspective. As I read through Mark the reoccurring theme seems to be how we allow our physical needs to supersede the spiritual power we have in Christ. God will provide, that is a given, but how often do we lose our focus on the spiritual by worrying about the physical? Don’t get me wrong, I know we must work and live but often we allow our physical needs to distract us from what we know spiritually. We base life decisions on the physical rather than what we know spiritually. That’s what the disciples were doing. They were letting the cares of this world choke out the experiences they had and what they saw Jesus do. Our greatest enemy is not Satan, he is defeated, our greatest enemy is distraction of what is most important. God will provide, don’t miss read what’s going on in your life today. Refocus and thrive spiritually and everything else will unfold according to God’s plan for you. God has you!
