Perspective

Joseph’s story always teaches me something and reminds me of what true greatness is. At seventeen he is sold to a godless foreign country, Egypt. Yet the next thirteen years he stood on what he knew in faith and God taught him. There was no other godly person around but yet because of what he learned from childhood about God he grew into a powerful influential leader. Years later when he comes face to face with his brothers, the ones who had sold him, he could have destroyed them, but Joseph had perspective.

“But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life…So now it was not you who sent me here, but God…” Genesis 45:5, 8

Greatness is revealed when people reach great heights of power and influence and remain compassionate and sensitive to the needs of others and God. When I read this story, I am reminded that I have no excuse to complain, blame or criticize or feel sorry for myself. It’s God who has led me this far in life, it’s not what others have done or haven’t done that has gotten me where I am today. It’s God, for my sake and purpose. If I am under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I will bloom where I’m planted and grow regardless of the odds thrown against me. Bitterness, anger, and resentment will not enter my heart or mind. When my prospective is right I grow through storms and learn. He will lead all of us in true greatness in this life as we keep our eyes on Him alone. I have to remind myself when I’ve had a tough battle of what the Bible says.

“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Regardless of what you have gone through, what your going through or will face in the future. Rest assured if your life is in Christ He will give you perspective and carry you through. You are made for greatness through Christ our Lord.
