Short Memories

I’ve been wrestling with the thought of how I have such a short memory of the goodness of God, yet when it comes to my failures it’s difficult to forget. Shouldn’t that be reversed? With all the uncertainties in our world today we must remember we have an all-powerful, gracious God.

Moses, in the Bible was teaching the generation he was leading to the Promise Land about all God had done. They were small children or not even born when God miraculously saved Israel from the slavery of the Egyptians and provided miraculously time after time for Israel. Yet quickly their forefathers forgot those blessings and were consumed with doubts again, and it cost them their promise and lives. Moses tells them,

“All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, besides a great many rural towns. And we utterly destroyed them…” Deuteronomy 3:5-6

“We utterly destroyed them”, it was no problem for us, if our faith was in God. But then Israel would soon forget when the next challenge came their way. They complained and grew afraid as they faced the giants in the land of promise, where God was taking them. We all have such short memories of how God has blessed, protected, and provided for us. God always fights for us, fear is our greatest enemy. Quickly Moses reminds us,

“You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.” Deut. 3:22

I ask God to help me to learn to live grateful, always remembering the power of God that goes before me. To help me remember and be grateful for how He has already proven His power in my life. How every battle I have faced this far in my life He aways brings me through stronger, wiser, and victoriously.  God never quits working for us as we move in His plan. Romans tells us that it doesn’t matter what things look like, even that will turn out for our good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Overcome fear with gratitude! Look back and see the goodness of God in your life. A grateful spirit is contagious and what our world needs now more than ever. God is with us, let’s stay with Him!

 Let Go and Live!
